The Dreaded F Word

Wait, wait, wait. Not that word. Stop thinking bad things. I'm talking about Fingerlings. Or you can even change that letter to H for Hatchimals. Or any letter for any of the "big" toys this Holiday season. Why am I hating on them so much? Do I think they are stupid toys? No. I think that some children will absolutely love these toys and play with them daily. I also think that there are children that will play with them for 5 minutes and then never want to touch them again. I don't hate the toy themselves; I hate the craze that has come up because of them. Yes, I understand that they are popular because some children already have them and show them off either in person or on YouTube videos. I also understand that all the big stores have made a huge deal about these little toys as well, which only drives up the interest of young children (and even some adults). I especially hate that there are people out there clearing the shelves and selling the toys fo...

Missing The Mark

If you follow my boards on Pinterest, I'm sure you have seen my board called "Debt Free by 30." I named it this a few years ago (before having my second child) and thought we would be done way sooner than that. I should start laughing now. I turned 30 yesterday and we still have debt. I've talked about it before. It's not a huge amount of debt, but it is still there reminding me daily of its existence. And to be honest, I'm a little disappointed. Definitely not. I have a plan in place for it to all be gone next year and am still working on ways of getting it paid off a bit sooner than my plan. ...

The Season of Comparison

First, let's ignore the fact that it has been 2 months since I have written. I have plans to write more, but honestly it has been on the back burner for a while now. Now, on to our regularly scheduled topic: the season of comparison. I see these questions (or different versions of them) every day and I have been seeing them for a couple weeks now: "How much do you spend on your child for the holidays?" and "How many gifts do you purchase for your child for the holidays?" And every single time I see the answers, I see shocked reactions and people getting upset. And I get it. I do. I have my own reasons for limiting both the amount of money spent and the amount of gifts my children receive. I won't elaborate on that because it honestly isn't important. What is important is that you do what you want/need to do for your family! Do you want to spend $1000 on each kid? Go for it! Do you want to limit the amount of toys that are brought into your hou...
