Fit Body, Fit Mind

Wow! I really need to get back on getting these blogs done more often. Let's blame it on a forgetful mind, shall we?

In my last post, I talked about how even though I had gained a bit of weight, I was happy about how much I had gained (strength, endurance, happiness, etc.)

Now, I want to talk a little bit about the program that I was in and have finished since that last blog.

It's called Fit Body Boot Camp!

Bit of a backstory first:

A couple months ago, I saw a sponsored ad for a new gym that was opening up in my area. I had been wanting something to give me a reason to leave the house at least once a week so I signed up for their newsletter, which entered me into a drawing for a spot in a 30 day workout challenge. Then a couple days later, they posted a picture about what shirt color you liked better (red or blue). Being a huge Ohio State fan, I had to go with the red, of course! Well, commenting on that post actually won me a spot in the 30 day challenge.

Honestly, when I first got the message that I had won a spot, I really thought I had just earned another entry into the drawing for a spot. It was a couple days later that I realized that I actually won a spot in the challenge, meaning I would get to check out the new gym for free! And then the panic set in.

If you know me in real life, you know that I stay home with my children. And I have only ever left my daughter at home or with someone for small errands or appointments. Never had I left her just to go do something for me! I also had the fear that I wouldn't know what I was doing and would feel lost in the workouts. Add that on to the fact that new experiences and places give me a bit of anxiety and you can understand that I was on the verge of giving up my spot for a couple days.

But I didn't.

And I'm glad I didn't.

Yes, I didn't know what I was doing sometimes. But that is why you have coaches there leading you and helping you improve (even if it means upping your weights or doing a bit more challenging of a move).

You also have the whole class encouraging you.

I have done workout programs online (and am back to doing them again) and have to really push myself to keep going. In a class setting like you have in Boot Camp, you have your group to really push you. So many times I would be ready to give up and would look at the person next to me and hear "you've got this" or "just one more round" coming from them. It really helped keep me going.

You also get the chance to use gym equipment that you may not be familiar with, which was an amazing plus for me. I am not a regular gym goer so many of the things used in Boot Camp were completely new for me. And having the coaches there to guide me along the way really helped me not feel overwhelmed.

Another great benefit is that the classes are not that long. Class times are 30 minutes and that includes your warm up and cool down. Plus, you aren't doing the same workouts for more than a minute at a time, which is awesome!

And, it was a new experience. I got to meet so many great people who are all on their own journey. Some were there just because of the challenge, some had already signed up for the whole year and some were just there trying it out for a few days. Some were there to really work on losing weight, some were there to tone up and some were there just to try something new! It was great to be in a group with everyone working on their own goals!

All in all, I lost a couple pounds a quite a few inches, but I gained so much. I gained a familiarity with some different kinds of gym equipment, added a few new workout moves into my mental library and had a lot of fun!

So, I loved it so much and am not continuing on, why? I know you have that question.

Sadly, as a stay at home mom, the money just isn't there for me to continue. And as bummed as I am about that, I'm okay with it too because I know Fit Body Boot Camp will still be there for me with open arms if/when I can afford it.

I am not being paid anything to write this blog, but I wanted to share my amazing experience because I have seen that Fit Body Boot Camp is a rapidly growing business and one may be coming to your neighborhood soon. Or there may already be one.

And if there is one near you now or there is one opening soon, I urge you to at least try it out! You never know it may just be that kick in the butt you need to reach those fitness goals!

In Debt, One Size Does Not Fit All

We've all heard the saying that some things are just not "one size fits all." Lately, I have come to realize that debt is one of those things. I have been wanting to blog about debt and debt repayment for a while, but I really had to get myself into the mindset that I am going to tackle our debt once and for all before I could do that. But that doesn't mean that I can't give you a couple pieces of advice while I am in my own debt repayment journey, right? Yep, I just felt some eye rolls for that question; it's okay. Here are a couple things that I have realized along our debt journey: 1) We don't all handle money the same way. There are multiple financial advisers and programs out there that advocate only using cash. If you are like me, cash is not a good thing. I know that these programs advocated splitting the cash up into envelopes and only using what is there, but I prefer a more fluid budget. Cash is just a terrible idea for me because when I...

One Thing We Need To Stop

Two posts in one day? Yep, you are super lucky. This one is getting typed up super fast because of something I keep seeing all over social media: Belly Shaming. Every. Single. Day. I see posts in a group I am in where moms are asking how far along they look just based on their bellies. Guess what? No two people will look exactly a like while they are pregnant. My 21 week belly might be equal to your 9 week or 39 week belly. And guess what? That's quite alright! I wish I could say that it only happens in mom's groups or even on social media for that matter. Sadly, that's not the case. I have heard so many stories of women being asked how far along they are. The worst part? Sometimes they aren't even pregnant. And that is no one's business! Seriously, if it isn't your belly, you probably don't have a reason to comment on it's size. We don't just walk up to someone in the store and comment about how big their ears or noses are so why is it okay...

The Dreaded F Word

Wait, wait, wait. Not that word. Stop thinking bad things. I'm talking about Fingerlings. Or you can even change that letter to H for Hatchimals. Or any letter for any of the "big" toys this Holiday season. Why am I hating on them so much? Do I think they are stupid toys? No. I think that some children will absolutely love these toys and play with them daily. I also think that there are children that will play with them for 5 minutes and then never want to touch them again. I don't hate the toy themselves; I hate the craze that has come up because of them. Yes, I understand that they are popular because some children already have them and show them off either in person or on YouTube videos. I also understand that all the big stores have made a huge deal about these little toys as well, which only drives up the interest of young children (and even some adults). I especially hate that there are people out there clearing the shelves and selling the toys fo...
