If you haven't seen already, I'm job hunting. And it's crazy and fun and scary all at the same time.
So I plan to do a few posts about it so that if any of my friends are job hunting after a long time of not working (7 years here), they might have this to look back on.
I could go on and on about how to type up your resume, where to look for jobs, or interview tips, but those are all over the Internet. Seriously, do a quick search and you will find blog posts, magazine articles, etc. about how to prepare for the fun that is returning to work.
But I found something that helped me that no one was talking about. And it can be as simple or as difficult as you make it.
Because the job search can be really tedious and stressful, I highly recommend giving yourself a project to take your mind off it for a little bit each day.
It can be redecorating a room in your house, knocking out some craft projects, training for a running race (you choose the distance), or any number of things.
Mine? Decluttering the house. Yep, I had finally watched enough specials on Netflix and read enough books that I was tired of so much clutter in my house. And what better time to purge a ton of stuff than the crazy time that is job searching.
As I'm going on interviews now, I'm realizing I'm nowhere near done decluttering. But I'm not going to rush to do it right now because these interviews won't necessarily turn into job offers and I'll still need something to do while waiting on that great job offer to come my way.
So give yourself some time each day to work on a project. Because it will help you out more than you realize.
It probably won't do you any good to sit in front of a computer 24 hours a day while looking for a job (because new jobs aren't posted quite that often) anyway and you'll feel like you accomplished something at the end of it.
What do you think? What would your project be if you had to start job searching today?
